Bloomberg Asphalt Art Initiative
The City of Santa Barbara, in collaboration with the Office of Arts and Culture, has been awarded $100,000 through the 2025 Bloomberg Asphalt Art Initiative Grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies to create a transformative asphalt art installation.

The project will revitalize the State Street and Carrillo Street intersection and the surrounding State Street corridor in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, improving pedestrian safety while creating a vibrant new home for the Santa Barbara Farmers Market. As part of the initiative, the City will host community engagement opportunities at the center of the Farmers Market, inviting residents and visitors to help shape the project.

A meet-and-greet event to introduce Lead Project Artist Eduardo Jimenez and Lead Graphic Artist Irene Ramirez, along with staff who were available to answer questions about the project.
Zapotec Weaving Workshop

This event featured a display of Zapotec weaving techniques that will inspire the asphalt art design, and offered community members the opportunity to share their ideas and create their own artwork to take home!
