Announcing Runaway by SPORTS: a Pop-Up Installation on State Street
Runaway is an innovative pavilion created by Greg Corso and Molly Hunker of the award-winning design and architecture collaborative, SPORTS. “Runaway” is on loan from the Museum of Contemporary Art- Santa Barbara and will be on display on State Street in Santa Barbara beginning in March 2019. The current installation is made possible by the City of Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara Beautiful. Stay tuned for special programs!
Before this, the Runaway project Take Part Make Art: Arte Para Todos has been on view at Buellton’s Avenue of Flags, Lake Cachuma Recreation Area, Storke Placita, Stearns Wharf, Harding Elementary and Elings Park.
Comprising three bright, building block parts that can be configured in multiple orientations, Runaway responds to the vivid light, ephemeral shimmer, and colorful skyscapes of Santa Barbara County. In this way, the modular structure seeks new ways of connecting visitors to the natural landscape – and each other. The project has won multiple awards from Architecture League, Architect Magazine and Architect Newspaper.
By contributing bold, contemporary design to Santa Barbara County, Runaway serves as an aesthetic catalyst and central hub for contemporary public arts programming.
A special thanks to The Big Red Crane Company for transporting the artwork!
