2018 state of the art gallery
The City of Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara County Office of Arts and Culture are pleased to announce the renewal of the State of the Art Gallery, featuring sculptures made exclusively by talented local artists.
The works will be mounted on 8 designated sites in the State Street corridor. Each of the pieces offers a unique or interactive element and many are centered on celebrating Santa Barbara’s culture, spirit and resilience.
The Opening Reception took place at the California Love Locks installation site, located at 629 State Street, on First Thursday, April 5. Remarks and a ribbon cutting by Mayor Cathy Murillo and project sponsor Santa Barbara Beautiful began at 5:30 p.m. For the opening, artists were onsite with their sculptures to answer questions and offer insights about the work from 5-8 p.m.
There was a closing reception at Plum Goods store, located at 909 State Street, on First Thursday, June 7 from 5-7 p.m. with several of the artists in attendance along with some light refreshments.
The project presents a unique collaboration between local artists and the City of Santa Barbara, the Office of Arts & Culture, the Downtown Organization, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art-Santa Barbara, the Santa Barbara Public Library, UC-Santa Barbara and the Arts Collaborative, the Historic Landmarks Commission (HLC), the City Arts Advisory Committee and the County Arts Commission.
It is made possible with generous support from Santa Barbara Beautiful.
